Eavesdrop
The piece Eavesdrop was made for an exhibition at the Soane Museum in London. All participants were given a 3d scanned piece of a burst depicting the founder of the museum, Sir John Soane. The Soane Museum is a place of fragmented secrets, and I see the house as a box that contains all of these. The museum holds historical plaster reproductions of antique statues and buildings, among other artwork. I was given a piece from the ‘burst puzzle’ of Sir John Soane's 3D scan of the neck, ear, and hair in white plastic. The 3D scanned piece has a geometrical outer shape, which contrasts the soft forms of the hair, ear, and neck. I was intrigued and inspired by how the ear could act as a functional part, a handle to lift the piece with. Eavesdrop is intended as a paperweight and a conversation piece. The Soane Museum is a place that embodies a puzzling collection of time. My piece represents the feeling of collecting fragments of sounds and memories.
