In my dreams spoon & I...
One morning a spoon appeared from a hole in my pillow. In a state of being, somewhere between sleep and awake, I enter a dreamscape. A recurring reverie continues to unfold and enchant.
In my work, I create dreamy objects that conjure fanciful experiences. I wish for the observer to enter my imaginary world where my work has grown and seems to continue growing. This world becomes the environment where my objects morph, transform and convert every day into a fantasy. I imagine my work desiring to become alive and mutate into other forms with other functions. The work arises from an imaginary dreamscape that turns the everyday function of familiar objects upside down.
I see the spoon branch used as an event installation for social occasions such as a wedding. The guests can go and snap off a spoon, enjoy dessert and keep the spoon as a memory of the day. I like that the piece plays with people’s expectations of what is functional and what isn’t. At first glance, it doesn’t appear very useful, but it is. Furthermore, I like the idea of a fresh spoon and that the spoon branch draws on the memory of picking an apple from a tree.
